EnglishX (“we”, “our”, or “the App”) is committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring your learning journey stays secure and transparent. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how we use and share it.
1. Information We Collect
EnglishX collects only the information that is necessary to personalize the learning experience and maintain internal analytics localy. That includes:
- Usage data: lessons viewed, quizzes started/completed, lesson duration (minutes studied), achievements unlocked, and words tapped for review. This data is stored locally and used for progress tracking, persistence of streaks, and generating quiz pools.
- Device information: platform name, OS version, and app version to help us diagnose issues and ensure compatibility.
- Anonymous analytics: aggregate telemetry that helps us understand feature engagement (e.g., which lessons are most popular, quiz completion rates).
No sensitive personal data (such as name, address, income, health information) is collected unless explicitly provided via direct feedback or support requests, and even then, it is used only to reply to that request.
2. How We Use Your Data
We use the collected data to:
- Track progress (lessons studied, words learned, quizzes taken, minutes studied).
- Generate adaptive vocabulary/grammar/quiz content, including the randomized quiz bank.
- Display achievements, badges, and profile statistics consistently across sessions.
- Improve app stability, fix bugs, and roll out future enhancements.
- Support direct feedback inquiries when you tap the “Send Feedback” button.
No collected data is sold or shared with third parties for marketing purposes. We do use third-party services (e.g., Google Mobile Ads) strictly for delivering contextual ads; however, those services may collect their own anonymous identifiers according to their privacy policies.
3. Ads & Third-Party Services
EnglishX shows interstitial ads via Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) when you finish quizzes and leave lessons. Google collects basic device identifiers to tailor ad delivery. For details on Google’s data practices, visit their privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy.
4. Data Retention & Storage
Progress-related data remains on the device unless you remove the app. We store stats, streak data, achievements, and lesson history in AsyncStorage; no cloud sync is performed. If a device is lost or the app is deleted, these stats reset unless manually exported in a future release.
5. Your Choices
You can control what is collected by:
- Disabling quizzes or not tapping the “Take Quiz” buttons (no data is recorded without interaction).
- Rejecting ads by using Android’s ad personalization settings or opting out of interest-based ads in Google Settings.
- Clearing the app’s storage or reinstalling the app to reset progress and remove locally stored data.
6. Security
We take reasonable precautions to safeguard your data within the app, including storing only locally and minimizing external transmissions. Although no method is 100% secure, we follow industry best practices for React Native and Expo apps to reduce risk.
